Prices at yesterday's Christchurch Wool Sale fell across all
categories of fleece.
The areas most affected were the "Chinese types" -- the finer
crossbred, and mid-micron grades favoured by Chinese buyers.
Merino prices also dropped, probably reflecting a fall in the
Australian market this week. The biggest falls were in the poorer
style merino wools. Higher quality wools fared better.
The offering was 9651 bales (1161 clean tonnes) of which a high
25 per cent failed to meet price reserves.
All indicators were down. The strong wool indicator was 415c,
down 21c, the medium indicator was down 28c to 542, while the fine
indicator was down 36c to 1629c.
