Article: Refugees end hunger strike

AUCKLAND --The Chinese refugees on a hunger strike in central Auckland have ended their protest.

A senior Auckland immigration official yesterday met a representative of the group at the Auckland City Council head office.

The building is near Aotea Square, where 40 hunger strikers and about 60 supporters began their eight-day protest over the exclusion of refugees from the overstayers' amnesty.

During the protest, 12 of the hunger strikers needed hospital treatment for dehydration.
