A PIONEERING research programme into the treatment of blood
pressure is about to begin at a Birmingham hospital.
City Hospital, Dudley Road, is one of only a handful of hospitals
in the world taking part in the the Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac
Outcomes Trial.
The trials will test the effectiveness of new drugs on patients
at
risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke because of high blood
pressure.
One-in-five people in the UK suffer from high blood pressure and
these are the first clinical trials to evaluate the best combination
of treatment for patients who need one or more drugs to lower their
blood pressure.
