BEFORE Benidorm, Clent was THE popular holiday resort for Birmingham and Black Country families a hundred years ago, a new book has highlighted.

There was no need to travel to Spain, especially in the sizzling summer of 1887, which it says saw the sun shining every day for 12 weeks.

Members of the Clent History Society will be launching the book "Clent Celebrated" on November 13, at a Millennium celebration event to be opened at 11am by Lord and Lady Cobham in Clent Parish Hall in Church Avenue.
