A BIRMINGHAM schoolboy was left in tears after Monty Python star Michael Palin pulled the plug on the youngster's eagerly awaited television debut.

Seven-year-old Michael Palin, from Abbey Road, Bearwood, had been approached by the BBC to star in a promotional advert featuring real- life children with the same names as famous celebrities.

But the youngster's father, also called Michael, said his son's dream of appearing before millions of viewers was cruelly dashed at the 11th hour when the Monty Python star refused to allow his name to be used.

Father and son were given the devastating news by the BBC on the same day they were due to drive to Cheshire for filming.
