PRINCE Charles was visiting Birmingham today to see for himself
how one of the most notorious red light districts in the country has
been transformed into a thriving community.
His visit honours the people of Balsall Heath who drove out the
pimps, prostitutes and drug dealers through initiatives such as the
Streetwatch scheme.
The royal visit marked the re-naming of the area as 'The New
Balsall Heath' and signs proudly bearing the name had been placed
around the area.
He was being welcomed to the Clifton Road mosque by local
schoolchildren, religious leaders and a cross-section of the
community who have helped regenerate the area.
