FORMER city leader Sir Richard Knowles may close the curtain on a
24 year council career after the shock loss of his Weoley seat.
Sir Richard, who celebrates his 83rd birthday later this month,
was philosophical about his 454 vote defeat in a poor 26 per cent
turn out.
'I'll have to give some thought to whether I will be standing
again - you had better ask my missus,' he said.
'But I am getting a bit ancient now. Politics is a tough game and
so OK I lost.
'But you have to remember I gave up a safe seat in Sparkbrook to
fight and win this Tory one in Weoley with a big majority four years
ago.'
