MARK Ramprakash today reflected on the thin line between success and failure at Test level having gone some way towards convincing his critics that he is the man to partner Michael Atherton at the top of England's order.

Ramprakash hit a determined 56 yesterday in a 121-run opening partnership with Atherton which helped England reach a commanding 203 for three in the Second Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.

It was only the third century opening partnership for England in 34 innings, but more importantly went some way to convincing Ramprakash's sceptics that he could be a success as a Test opener.
