A MIDLAND boxing club that faced extinction after being told to
quit its base after more than 60 years has been saved.
The Portland Road Pavilion club in Edgbaston, Birmingham, has
come to the rescue of the Warley Amateur Boxing Club by offering
free use of its gymnasium.
The boxing club, which had been based at the Warley Health and
Fitness Centre in Abbey Road, Bearwood, was dealt a knockout blow
when Brian Loveridge, who runs the centre, decided he needed more
room for health and fitness equipment.
The club's boxing ring was pulled down at the weekend and club
officials were told coaching and training had to stop by the end of
next month.
