MORE than 150 convicted drug dealers and addicts in the West
Midlands have undergone new tests imposed by courts to ensure they
kick the habit.
Probation West Midlands has been at the forefront of piloting new
Drug Testing Orders and revealed in its annual report today that 153
were now in place.
Once the courts order a drug user to take the tests, their urine
is sampled at least once a week and they can be re-sentenced if they
fail. Other checks are also carried out.
The service revealed that it had dealt with a total of 8,250
criminals in the past year and since April it has taken on a further
3,000 cases.
