Article: The all wheel drive Volvo Cross Country

IN 1993, Volvo started the design for what we now know as the Cross Country. Based on the V70 Estate and the Volvo S80, it is not a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

Volvo's market researchers found out that the SUV concept did not sit well with potential Volvo buyers. In 1997, about 22,000 units of the first generation of the Cross Country were sold and Volvo decided that the future models should have a more aggressive look, marked with big wheels and fender extensions.
