Article: Faulty wiring the cause (HL)

OLD and faulty wiring system was probably the cause of the blaze at Universiti Malaya's Dewan Tunku Canselor last month.

The wiring had not been replaced for a long time and could not sustain the current load of electricity supply needed for the building.

The Fire and Rescue Department's investigations into the blaze, which occurred on June 29, revealed it was caused by the old wiring system, and not due to arson or foul play.

The investigations, contained in a comprehensive report on the fire, also revealed that the wiring system in the building could not have been modified without proper consultation with the relevant authorities.
