EDINBURGH Castle has been voted the best in Britain by North
American tourists.
The city landmark beat off competition from Windsor Castle and
the
Tower of London to scoop top spot in a readers' poll by leading US
travel magazine British Heritage.
The 1999 Travellers' Choice Award was presented to Historic
Scotland chief executive Graeme Munro and Neil Young, the castle's
manager, at the British Travel Trade Fair in Birmingham.
Mr Munro said: "This award not only recognises that the castle is
an attraction of international quality, but reinforces Edinburgh's
