IT was the tale of two cities which saw Glasgow left empty- handed as prosperous Edinburgh won battles over the Scottish Parliament, the Royal Yacht Britannia and flagship store Harvey Nichols.

But now a new spirit of co-operation could see Scotland's two major cities working in unison on similar projects in the future.

The two cities will share a major cycling conference at the dawn of the new Millennium -and as soon as the decision was announced the council leaders of both cities were building bridges in a discussion over the phone.
