Article: So what do the patients really think of Lothian hospitals?

PATIENTS at ten Lothian hospitals are taking part in a pioneering project to reveal the "warts and all" reality of the NHS.

In the first scheme of its kind in Britain, patients have taken behind the scenes photographs and commented on the treatment they received at the hands of Edinburgh medics.

And health chiefs have pledged to use the results to undertake a fundamental review of their services.

While some patients praised the care and attention they received, others described their hospital experience as similar to being on a "conveyor belt".

Now 5000 more are to give their opinions as part of a further study, called Through the Patient's Eye, by Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust.
