Article: EICC MAKES GBP 3M LOSS IN BUSIEST YEAR

THE Edinburgh International Conference Centre made a GBP 3m trading loss last year - despite generating an extra GBP 5m for the city's economy.

Its annual report, published today, shows that the Morrison Street centre attracted 69,000 business tourists in 1998, an increase of 24,000 on the previous year - and generated nearly GBP 17 million for the Capital, up GBP 5m on 1997.

The centre had the busiest year of its four-year history, hosting more than 160 events, including a record 23 international association events.

Chief Executive Hans Rissmann said 20 per cent of all EICC business in 1998 was from previous customers.
