Article: SURVEY REVEALS BRITAIN HAS FASTEST RISING TAX BURDEN IN EUROPE

BRITAIN'S tax burden is growing faster than any other country in Europe, it emerged today.

A survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development found the tax burden leaped by more than 6 per cent in the first full year of the Labour Government.

The annual rise was said to be the highest for 16 years - exceeding almost every other developed country. Britain now pays more tax than Germany for the first time in a generation and the tax burden is growing almost 30 times faster than that of France.

The UK tax burden is also higher than that of Ireland, Spain, Portugal, the United States and Japan.
