Article: ROYAL INFIRMARY GOES UP FOR SALE

EDINBURGH'S historic Royal Infirmary is to be put up for sale in the New Year -almost 18 months after it was due to be sold.

Lothian University Hospitals Trust today revealed they will put Scotland's second biggest hospital on the open market to get the best possible price for the health service.

And that price is likely to run into several millions - with the buyer likely to turn the site into housing.

SNP Lothians list MSP Margo MacDonald has asked the trust to consider using the site for student accommodation.

Lothian Health Board chairman Margaret Ford is keen for part of the main building to be transformed into a museum of medicine.

The infirmary should have been sold in August 1998 ...
