One of the best ways your child can prepare for going to
university is to take time off. A gap year is a chance for a change
of pace and to do something challenging and inspirational. Whatever a
"gapper" chooses to do, whether it is travelling the world,
volunteering abroad, learning a new skill or getting a job, it will
be worth it for the life experience.
After a gap year students are more self-confident, motivated,
knowledgeable and independent. If properly planned, a year out can
say as much, if not more, about an individual than any set of exam
results. It also looks good on the CV. Far from being considered a
