NEVER thought I'd see the day. There they were, three of Edinburgh's top foodies, standing in the street on a freezing cold February day, blue-nosed with it, furiously eating chips out of a bag.

Food writer and author Mary Contini, a director of Valvona & Crolla; Yves Lemarchand, the Consul for Belgium in Scotland who also works in the hospitality business; and award-winning chef Peter Banks, were in a huddle discussing the state of Edinburgh's chips.

Chips have come in for a bit of a battering recently - at least those sold in Gary Rhodes' Rose Street restaurant ...
