NEARLY nine out of ten Edinburgh drivers want more money to be spent on public transport, a new survey reveals.

And more than seven out of ten say they would switch from their cars if the quality of bus and train services was improved.

Only 6.7 per cent of drivers questioned disagreed with the idea that more money should be spent on improving the city's public transport network.

The report, due out this week, says Edinburgh motorists were also more likely to use public transport occasionally than those in the other cities surveyed - Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield.

They were chosen because they were large cities with an interest in developing their transport systems.
