Article: Handicap system can give lift-off to club golf

SCOTLAND'S first-ever centralised golf handicap system has been launched by Scottish Golf, a partnership between the Scottish Golf Union, the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association and leading Internet company Scotland on Line.

The new pounds 3 million project, one of the most significant developments in club golf, will provide every golf club in Scotland with free computer hardware, equipment and training to introduce the system.

It will also allow Scotland's 250,000 golf club members to update their own handicap records using a Scottish Golf smartcard.

There will be no cost to golf clubs or their members in this scheme.
