Article: Israeli Navy likely to Operate on Aegean Sea

In the foreseeable future, the Israeli navy may have to patrol Israel's commercial maritime routes, thus rendering the Aegean Sea the next possible theater of operations, reported The Jerusalem Post today.

Navy Commander Ami Ayalon told reporters on board the new Eilat Saar-5 missile boat off the coast of the Gaza Strip yesterday, that hostile North African navies may try to hinder maritime traffic to and from Israel.

"That means it is in the navy's interest to sail these routes and that implies that naval battles may develop in the Aegean," he said.
