Article: Nepali Wildlife Experts Laud Ban on Red Panda Trade

Nepali wildlife experts have lauded an international move to ban the trade of red panda, a rare animal found in South Asia's high altitudes of the Himalayas, a local newspaper reported today.

The Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), the international body governing the trade of wild animals and plants, recently transferred the red panda from its appendix two to appendix one, the Kathmandu Post here said today.

Species deemed to be endangered, as rhino and tiger, are put under CIETS' appendix one which completely bars trade in such animals and their body parts.
