Bahrain's tourism revenues have been increasing steadily due to the governmental policy of diversification from the heavily oil dependent economy.

The Gulf Arab archipelago received 500 million dollars from tourism in 1994, almost four time more than that of 1993, officials told Xinhua when we visited the country recently.

Nearly 2.6 million tourists visited Bahrain, accounting for more than half of the 5 million tourists recorded in all six Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, countries, which also include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates(UAE).
