The number of overseas tourists to Australia has peaked after increasing rapidly in the past two years.

Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today showed that visitor arrivals in September increased a marginal 0.1 percent over the previous month in trend terms.

ABS said that trend estimate of visitor arrivals had risen more than 1.5 percent monthly for the previous six consecutive months.

A total of 2.64 million overseas tourists arrived in Australia in the first nine months of the year, up 11.6 percent from the same period of last year.
