ENCAMPMENT -- Somewhere along the Encampment River, a bright sun shines through golden willows, cottonwoods and aspen and shimmers off riffles as I try to sort out the events of the past three weeks.

Many of us are still stunned by the terrorist attacks on our country. We are saddened by the tremendous loss of life, proud of the heroics of so many, and angry for vengeance and retribution against our enemies.

But mostly we are confused and worried about the future, about our future as a nation in a war against a largely invisible enemy. An enemy that struck quickly, suddenly with a new form of weapon. An enemy that likely will strike again, but probably in a different place, with a different ...
