Article: MORE WOMEN HAVING CESAREAN DELIVERIES

CHEYENNE -- In the early 1990s many pregnant women shied away from having cesarean deliveries.

It was the most dramatic drop in recent history, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But then the situation reversed.

By 1999, more women -- including those in Wyoming -- were having cesareans than at the start of the decade, the National Vital Statistics Report says.

While both the national and Wyoming trends track each other, women in this state have fewer cesarean deliveries. Women using United Medical Center in Cheyenne have about 10 percent fewer cesareans than the national average.
