TONY Butala is the senior class member of the Lettermen trio but
he's not ready to graduate.
"We are three men in a vocal group who are entertainers in the
year 2000 that happen to have had hit records in the 60s and 70s,"
Butala said.
The other two are Donovan Tea, singing with the Lettermen for 17
years, and Darren Dowler, a former soap opera actor who can do 65
vocal impersonations.
Butala has been singing since in the 1950s, starting as a member
of the Mitchell Boys Choir. With the choir, he learned to sight read
music, sang in 21 languages, including Yiddish and Arabic and sang
at several church services in a single weekend.
