CASPER -- Ending a two-year study of the state's tax structure,
the Tax Reform 2000 Committee agreed Friday by a 6 to 3 vote to
recommend a slightly amended version of a state income tax.
The recommendation is not linked to any specific income tax
program, but committee members suggested the plan be simple.
They declined to recommend that it be attached to federal income
tax forms. They also said that should a state income tax be
implemented, sales, use and property taxes would be credited back to
the taxpayer.
Committee Chairman Rep. John Hines, R-Gillette, said he thinks it
is the most fair way to revamp the tax system.
