Unless there is a dramatic turnaround in the next six days, it
looks as though proposed changes to Wyoming's state's food code will
go into effect without a public hearing.
That would be a mistake.
For more than two years the governor's Food Safety Task Force has
been meeting to help move the state's food safety system into the
21st century. The goal was to develop "the most innovative and
collaborative food safety program in our nation."
It's hard to argue with that. In fact, this newspaper applauds
Gov. Jim Geringer and Wyoming Department of Agriculture Director Ron
Micheli. They saw the need to look at changes and to bring the code
into compliance with present procedures.
