CHEYENNE Cheyenne's Botanic Gardens is a place where volunteers
senior citizens, children and handicapped folks alike turn a social
project into a community asset.
Shane Smith, director of the Botanic Gardens, says there are two
distinguishing characteristics that make this city's botanic gardens
different from those in other places.
First, he says, the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is people-oriented
and the labor force is community-based.
Ninety-five percent of the work done at this 6,800-square-foot
greenhouse and the four acres it sits on is performed by volunteers.
