Article: New Town style for much less

NEW Town flats are over 30 per cent more expensive than almost identical flats in the West End, property experts said today.

Estate agents said competition for property in the New Town had now created a substantial gap with Edinburgh's West End, despite the area's proximity to the city centre and attractive Victorian architecture.

A two-bedroom flat in the New Town might sell for GBP 200,000, compared with a similar flat in the West End fetching around GBP 50,000 less.

Estate agents said they were now beginning to see home buyers moving into the West End after becoming priced out of the New Town by people willing to pay a premium for "bragging" rights over their address.
