Article: Safety call as cancer link to hair dye found

SCIENTISTS today called for an urgent review of chemical safety after analysing evidence that hair dye increases the risk of cancer.

The European Commission experts demanded swift action to investigate research which suggests regular and prolonged use of hair dyes increases the risk of killer tumours.

Recent research has indicated women using permanent dyes regularly over a period of years could be trebling their chances of getting the disease.

The fears are set to cause a public health scare which will be particularly worrying to Scots medics.

One of the main forms of cancer thought to be increased by hair dye use is bladder cancer, which has shown an alarming rise north of the Border.
