Article: Retail sales growth hit by attacks

SCOTTISH retail sales growth stuttered last month after the terrorist attacks in the United States and may have peaked, according to a new survey released today.

The latest Scottish Retail Consortium/Royal Bank of Scotland retail sales monitor showed like-for-like sales growth in the month dropped to 3.8 per cent annually, down from August's 4.7 per cent rise.

However, overall sales figures were up 6.7 per cent, a small rise on the previous month's 6.4 per cent - the largest increase in more than a year.

Royal Bank chief economist Jeremy Peat said figures showed that, despite the attacks, Scottish retail sales had remained strong.
