Article: UNHCR Seeks 353 Million Dollars for Bosnian Refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has appealed for 353 million U.S. dollars for its 1996 operation in ex-Yugoslavia, focusing on the return of more than 800,000 refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The money is part of an 823-million-dollar appeal launched by 11 agencies through the 1996 U.N. Consolidated Inter-Agency Appeal for the region.

Programs in Bosnia-Herzegovina will make up nearly 197 million dollars of UNHCR's 1996 budget. The agency is planning to phase out emergency assistance for the 2.4 million current beneficiaries within the republic and to divert funds mainly to the return and relocation of refugees and IDPs.
