Turkey's new coalition government formed by the Motherland Party
(ANAP) and the True Path Party (DYP) won a vote of confidence in
parliament today.
The minority coalition government led by ANAP Chairman Mesut
Yilmaz obtained 257 votes in the 550-seat parliament while 207
deputies from pro-Islamic Welfare Party (RP) and the Republican
People's Party (CHP) voted against the government.
At the same time, 80 deputies from the Democratic Left Party (DSP)
and Great Union Party (BBP) abstained at the balloting as a support
to the coalition government.
