Article: Iran Attacks Iraq for Failure in Exchanging POWS

Iran said here today that no progress was made in exchanging prisoners of war despite four rounds of talks between Tehran and Baghdad.

Abdullah Nagafi, head of the Special Commission for the Prisoners of War (POWs), said that the two sides have already reached agreement in three pages and seven points, but it has not gone into effect yet.

The Iranian official blamed the problem on Baghdad, saying "absence of practical measures for implementing the accord lies in lack of authority on the part of the Iraqi delegation."

Iran is ready to hold negotiations on POWS with Iraq in light of the importance Iran attaches to the war prisoners and those missing in action, he added.
