Article: UNHCR: 6.7 Million Refugees in Africa

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Tuesday reported that there were 6.7 million refugees, 1.9 million Internally displaced persons in Africa as of January 1995, among nearly 12 million people of concern to it on the continent.

Globally, the people of concern to UNHCR number over 27 million.

In 1994, the UN refugee agency provided material assistance to some 17.6 million people worldwide, 8.9 million of them in Africa the biggest group of aid recipients.
