Article: Town of Swallows on Tropic of Cancer

Thousands of people are being plagued by mosquitoes, and persecuted by their nasty bites.

But in China's Mojiang township - which lies on the Tropic of Cancer - a strange phenomenon has given locals a respite from the insect invaders.

Up to half a million swallows have decided that Mojiang is the place to be on a warm summer's day.

And while the acrobatic antics of the swallows amuse townsfolk they are delighted that their feathered visitors thrive on a diet - of mosquitoes.

At dusk local folk are entertained to a wonderful sight in the skies: tens of thousands of swallows are perched on four power lines extending as long as 600 meters in Mojiang town - altitude of 1,300 meters.
