Chinese Vice-Premier Zhu Rongji said that corrupt people must be removed from the financial sector and that financial crimes must be treated seriously.

"Financial criminal activities must be dealt with harshly so as to guarantee the smooth working of our financial reforms and the development of the finance industry," Zhu told a national meeting on Wednesday, which was organized by the State Council and attended by leading officials of banks and insurance companies.
