Article: FM: Israel Not to Confront Syrian Army in Lebanon

Foreign Minister Ehud Barak said last night that Israel has no interest in striking the Syrian army in Lebanon, but will continue to hit Hezbollah bases wherever they are.

Barak made the statement on Israel Television. He said anyone who objects to the hits should put an end to Hezbollah activities against Israel. The foreign minister was apparently referring to Syria's reluctance to rein in Hezbollah in accordance with the understanding brokered by the U.S. in 1993 in the wake of Israel's Operation Accountability.
