Article: Tax Evasion Rampant On Tanzania-Kenya Border

Tanzania and Kenya are losing billions of Shillings yearly through tax evasion on goods crossing the common border of the two countries daily, a sources said here today.

Investigations in Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions last week revealed that irrespective of police customs and excise, sales tax and inland revenue officials' vigilance, specific commodities continued to cross the border untaxed.

The sources said that businessmen in the two countries were involved in moving the commodities from either country through official entry points and unlawful routes without paying the necessary dues.
