Zambia today declined to state when it will sign the Southern
African Development Community (SADC) protocol on shared water
resources, saying it needs more time to study the document.
Energy and Water Development Minister Edith Nawakwi told
reporters
here that Zambia is approaching the issues cautiously due to the
critical importance of the Zambezi River waters to Zambia.
She explained that sharing of the Zambezi River water in such
ways
as individual countries tapping from it would have more consequences
on Zambia than any other state in southern Africa.
