Human-like creatures wandered around north China's jungles 40 millions ago - millions of years earlier than similar species in Africa, dramatic new findings by anthropologists has revealed.

The discovery of a fossil, by a Sino-American joint scientific expedition, points to the earliest ancestors of anthropoids walking the planet.

The pre-man ancestor, who has a body the size of a rabbit and a head the size of a ping-pong ball, is believed to be five million years older than his African neighbor, and could be the earliest ancestor shared by anthropoids including monkeys, apes and humans.
