The government authorities of Jingmen, a city of central China's
Hubei Province, have adopted effective measures and dealt serious
blows at criminals who rob ancient tombs, according to local
officials.
Statistics by the local government department overseeing the
protection of cultural relics show that there are more than 1,700
underground ancient tombs with their tops sealed off in Jingmen,
which was one of the originations of the well-known Chu State Culture
of the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.).
However, unlawful digging of ancient tombs dating back to as early
