Article: China Readjusts Building Materials Industry

China has mapped out an ambitious program to readjust its fledging building materials industry by focusing on new building materials and products that will bring in high economic returns.

The country's building materials industry has expanded rapidly, showing a yearly growth rate of more than ten percent in cement, glass and sanitary ceramics production, said Qiao Longde, vice-chairman of the State Administration of Building Materials Industry.

Qiao recently spoke at a press conference for China Building Materials '96, which will be held at the China World Trade Center un November.

In 1995, the country's building materials industry brought in 260 billion yuan in output value, he said.
