Article: French Army to Cut 38 Regiments in 3 Years

The French Army will cut 38 regiments from a total of 180 in the next three years and the Air Force will close five bases next year, said the French daily Le Monde today.

The French Defense Minister Charles Million is to announce next Wednesday a package of "measures for adaptation" to reform the country's defense system as was announced by President Jacques Chirac earlier this year.

Le Monde said in its Friday edition that among the regiments to be cut are the military academy regiments, the instruction school of armoured ground force and the cavalry at Saumur.
