Article: Pakistani Government Pursuing Multi-Pronged Policy

The Pakistani government is pursuing a multi-pronged policy to tackle the acute problem of unemployment in the country, a senior official said here today.

Talking with a delegation of Britain-based Pakistani investors, Pakistani government consultant Awais Jawaid Bangash said that the first policy is to solve the problem through economic development with specific employment generating schemes.

The second policy pertains to efforts for reducing population growth to curtail supply side on the labor market, Bangash said.

Pakistan's present population is estimated at 131.63 million and its growth rate is 2.9 per cent in the fiscal year 1995-96.
