Article: Roundup: Nepal Ratifies Treaty with India

The Nepali parliament has finally ratified the Mahakali border river treaty with India with an overwhelming majority vote after over one week of prolonged and heated debate in and outside parliament.

A joint meeting of the upper and lower houses Friday endorsed the Mahakali treaty by a vote of 220 to 8 in the 265-seat parliament.

The voting took place last night as the main opposition Communist Party of Nepal (united Marxist Leninist, CPN-UML) did not make its final decision to support the treaty until the evening.
